Saona is a protected island inside Parque Nacional del Este, and getting there is half the day. You drive to Bayahíbe, board a speedboat and cut across open water toward the island.

On the way there is a stop at the natural pool, a sandbank far from shore where the water reaches your waist and starfish rest on the bottom. The bar opens and nobody is in a hurry.

On the island itself you get a Dominican buffet lunch served under the palms and a long stretch of free time: swim, walk the shoreline, or do nothing at all. The way back is on a catamaran with music, which is the slow, loud, happy half of the trip.

• Bring a towel, swimwear, sunscreen and a hat, there is very little shade.
• The day is long: expect to be picked up around 07:00 AM, 07:30 AM, 08:00 AM and back late afternoon.

• We tell you the night before whether to wait at the lobby or at the main gate, depending on your hotel's access policy.

Guests staying in Cap Cana meet us at the Cap Cana Information Center, next to the main security gate. At most hotels we pick you up at the security gate, not the lobby.

Staying in an Airbnb or a residential area? Walk to the nearest hotel gate or to one of our meeting points and we will take it from there. You can also drive straight to the ranch if you prefer.

You receive your exact pickup time and spot the night before. Pickup usually happens one hour before your tour, up to an hour and a half in high season or for hotels farther out.

Please be at your pickup point ten minutes early. The driver calls your name three times; if nobody answers it counts as a no-show, which is non-refundable and cannot be rescheduled.
