Ready to leave the resort and see the real Bávaro?

Everything starts at a working ranch in Macao, a Dominican village that has nothing to do with the hotel strip. You check in, get a short safety briefing, taste chocolate, coffee, tea and mamajuana, and then pick your ride.

The buggy is the easy one to drive and the one that gets gloriously muddy. The ATV asks a bit more of you and splashes a bit less. The Kayo is the premium option, with more power and a smoother seat.

Bring a bandana and sunglasses. Depending on the weather the trail is either dusty or muddy, and both are part of the fun.

From there you head out on country trails to a natural cenote in El Salado for a quick swim and photos, then on to Macao Beach to rinse off and stretch out. The waves can be strong, so swim with care.

Back at the ranch you can look through the tour photos and browse local crafts. Buying anything is entirely optional.

Traditional Dominican house — 30 minutes
A stop to taste coffee, chocolate, organic tobacco, green tea and mamajuana, with a local explaining how each one is made.

Los Hoyos del Salado cenote — 30 minutes
The highlight of the route. A natural cave with clear, cold water where you can swim before getting back on the trail.

Macao Beach — 30 minutes
One of the best known shorelines in the area. Time to relax, take photos, shop or grab a bite.

• Minimum driver age is 16. No driver's license required.

• This is an off-road experience: dust, mud and uneven terrain come with it.

• We tell you the night before whether to wait at the lobby or at the main gate, depending on your hotel's access policy.
• Have your booking confirmation ready, printed or on your phone.
• Children must be accompanied by an adult.
• Guests must be in good health to take part. The activity is not wheelchair accessible.
• Follow your guide's instructions at all times.
• If the weather turns unsafe, we reschedule the tour at no cost.

Pickup is included from every resort in Bávaro, Punta Cana, Uvero Alto and Macao.

Guests staying in Cap Cana meet us at the Cap Cana Information Center, next to the main security gate. At most hotels we pick you up at the security gate, not the lobby.

Staying in an Airbnb or a residential area? Walk to the nearest hotel gate or to one of our meeting points and we will take it from there. You can also drive straight to the ranch if you prefer.

You receive your exact pickup time and spot the night before. Pickup usually happens one hour before your tour, up to an hour and a half in high season or for hotels farther out.

Please be at your pickup point ten minutes early. The driver calls your name three times; if nobody answers it counts as a no-show, which is non-refundable and cannot be rescheduled.
